Moosehaven was recognized this month as one of the ‘2025 Best Nursing Homes’ by U.S. News & World Report. Moosehaven also received its highest rating of ‘High Performing’ in both Short-Term Rehabilitation and Long-Term Care. Only 19 percent of the approximately 15,000 skilled nursing facilities rated by U.S. News meet that standard.
According to U.S. News, “the quality of care provided to the 1.2 million residents of U.S. skilled nursing facilities varies widely.” The ratings are intended to help consumers make important health care decisions for themselves and their loved ones.
The ratings are based on a detailed and unbiased data analysis of the country’s skilled nursing facilities. They recognize two very different types of care:
Long-Term Care for patients who are no longer able to live independently and need help with daily activities.
Short-Term Rehabilitation for patients following a hospitalization for surgery, heart attack, stroke, injury or similar condition.
The Long-Term ratings are based on an assessment carried out by U.S. News of 8 quality measures, including staffing, medical outcomes, resident complaints, vaccinations and appropriate use of medications. Similarly, the Short-Term ratings are based on an assessment of 9 quality measures, using data from the federal government’s Care Compare program. Those measures include staffing levels, medical outcomes and resident complaints.
For both types of care, a home may receive a rating of High Performing, Average or Below Average. Homes that excel at one type of care do not necessarily excel at the other. For details of the U.S. News methodology, please refer to its published methodology report and FAQ.
