Veterans from Moosehaven visited the Jacksonville Naval Museum this week for a tour of the USS Orleck, a gearing class destroyer commissioned in 1945.
During the Korean War, the Orleck was a charter member of the “Train Busters Club” and received 4 battle stars. Later dubbed the ”Grey Ghost of the Vietnam Coast,” it fired 11,000 rounds during Vietnam, netting an astonishing 14 battle stars.
Today the Orleck serves as an interactive warship museum of naval military history and the center piece exhibit of the Jacksonville Naval Museum.
